I’ve come to be known as a wedding and engagement photographer and I absolutely love those shoots. What’s lesser known is that I photograph my clients in all stages of life, including when little ones come along for newborn and family photography! As a mom myself, I get that it can be a challenge to find the time for family photos and even more difficult to work out all of the details that go into a family session. Don’t sweat it! Here are a few tips on how to have stress-free family photos!
Wardrobe seems to be a big hang-up for a lot of clients and understandably so. Especially if you’re working with large families, it can be really daunting to try to coordinate outfits. The main thing to remember here is you can never go wrong with a neutral, and your outfits don’t have to match exactly. It’s more important that the colors that you choose for everyone work together instead of making sure that the exact same shade. That would be nearly impossible, it’s stressful and it’s just not necessary!
Choose a location that’s meaningful to you! I love to shoot around the St Augustine and Jacksonville areas. There are so many beautiful spots to choose from for sessions! I’m a huge fan of downtown shoots because they give a unique, urban feel to the photos. However, if you have a specific location in mind that is sentimental to you or your family, we can make it happen. If little ones will be included, consider parks with plenty of space for them to run and just be kids! This makes for a less stressful day and great shots of your babies being curious and playful!
Schedule the session! Every parent knows babies don’t keep, and older children really aren’t an exception to that rule. As the saying goes, we only get 18 summers with our kids if we’re lucky. Kids change so much from one day to the next during that time. There will never come a day that you look back on photos of your family and wish that you hadn’t done the session. Stop worrying about making sure that your hair is perfect or losing a couple more pounds before scheduling the shoot! The people you love the most love you exactly the way that you are.
With Mother’s Day just behind us, I think it goes without saying that most of us are shocked at how quickly our babies grow up. Photos of the people you love are priceless and will one day be even more appreciated than they are right now if you can believe it. Ready to book? Get started here! Let me handle the rest.
