Destination Wedding weekends are my absolute favorite because It is about bringing your favorite people together, making memories in a new place, and celebrating the kind of love that gets everyone on the dance floor. And as bad bunny said ” Debir tirar mas fotos” so having me to capture it brings it all to life !
Jahira and Christian’s destination wedding at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico was one for the books.
From traveling into Cancun on Thursday to an all-white welcome party on Friday and an emotional wedding day on Saturday, their entire weekend was filled with family, laughter, happy tears, and a whole lot of dancing.
As a destination wedding photographer, these are the weekends I love documenting. I get to capture not just the wedding day itself, but all the little moments leading up to it that make the experience even more meaningful. I also love the connection I get to build with the family , joining their circle for the weekend and essentially becoming a part of it as I capture all their moments.
Our wedding weekend started with a flight into Cancun, Mexico, and a wonderful experience with Lomas Transportation. Getting private transportation organized is one of those little details that can make arriving at a destination wedding so much easier!
Once we arrived at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, we settled in, explored the resort, and started looking for locations for our sunset engagement-style session.
One of my favorite things about destination weddings is that couples can make the most of the location instead of squeezing everything into one day. Sometimes, that means scheduling an engagement session a few days before the wedding.
It gives us time to explore the resort, find beautiful spots for portraits, and capture the two of you enjoying this experience together without the pressure of a wedding-day timeline.
The best part is taking advantage of being in Mexico and being able to photograph locations you otherwise wouldn’t be able to on the wedding day.

One of the best parts of staying at an all-inclusive resort like Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya is that there is plenty to enjoy without ever having to leave the property.
Between the pools, swim-up bars, restaurants, live entertainment, and nightlife, there is something for everyone. You can spend the day relaxing by the pool, enjoy a show in the evening, or simply take a break and order room service after a long day of celebrating.
And after a busy wedding day, room service really does hit differently!
If you want to explore beyond the resort, there are excursions throughout the Riviera Maya area, with transportation options available for many outings.
But for Jahira and Christian’s family, this weekend was all about spending time together and getting ready for the big day with a few of them going on explorations the day after the wedding day.
Friday evening was finally here, and Jahira and Christian hosted their all-white welcome party at the Fania Ballroom inside Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
Their family had arrived from Orlando, Florida, and everyone was ready to kick off the wedding weekend!
It was an intimate gathering filled with excitement, hugs, conversations, and that feeling you get when the people you love most are finally in one place. Everyone was so excited and honored to be there, including me.
I love welcome parties because they give everyone a chance to settle in and enjoy the celebration before the wedding day arrives. They also give me the opportunity to document all those candid interactions that couples may not even realize are happening.

The happy tears, the laughter, the family catching up, and the little moments in between all become part of the story.
And this was only Friday. We still had the wedding day ahead of us!

Wedding morning arrived, and after all the excitement of the night before, it was finally time to celebrate Jahira and Christian.
Jahira had her hair done at the salon on the resort and did her own makeup. I loved how personal she made the morning, surrounding herself with the people who meant the most to her.
One of the sweetest parts of the day was watching her daughter help her get ready. These are the moments that make wedding photography so special to me. The little interactions, the family connections, and the memories that become even more meaningful years later.
When you look back at your wedding photographs, you want to remember more than what everything looked like. You want to remember how it felt.
Before the ceremony, Jahira shared a first look with her bridesmaids, her mom, and her grandparents.
It was such a beautiful way to include her closest people in the morning and give them a moment together before everything began.
She chose to save her first look with Christian for the traditional moment when he would see her walking down the aisle.
And I am so glad she did.
It hits a little different when the people surrounding you are literally your closest family and friends who have been waiting to see you two get married (apparently the joke was FINALLY for over 10 years lol)
with that in mind imagine the feeling of finally seeing your person on your wedding day in the destination you planned (after so much planning ) the emotions definitely run loose.
When Christian saw Jahira walking down the aisle, he became very emotional as well as his daughter and it was so beautiful to see this extremely awaited for moment come to life.
These are the moments I live for as a wedding photographer. Not because someone is crying or because it makes for a beautiful photograph, but because those reactions are real. They happen when everything becomes real in that one moment.
All the planning, all the anticipation, and all the people who traveled to celebrate with you suddenly fade into the background. It is just the two of you, standing there, ready to begin this next chapter together.
And that is the kind of moment you cannot recreate.
One of the most meaningful moments of Jahira and Christian’s ceremony was a surprise involving their pastor, who had not been able to join them for the celebration in person.
Instead, they incorporated a voice memo from him into the ceremony.
He prayed over the couple and invited their family and friends to extend their hands toward them in prayer.
It was beautiful.
Watching everyone come together to pray over Jahira and Christian was such a powerful reminder that a wedding is not just about two people getting married. It is also about the community, the faith, and the people who will continue to love and support them long after the celebration ends.
It was a meaningful moment in the middle of an already emotional day, and one that made their ceremony feel even more personal.
The weather had been a topic of conversation throughout the weekend.
The day before the wedding, rain had affected the plans for the welcome party, and the celebration had to move indoors. There was also a hurricane in the Gulf, far enough away that it was not an immediate concern for our plans, but close enough to make everyone keep an eye on the weather.
We even chatted with Juan, one of the super cool bartenders at the swim-up bar, about the weather and hurricane season in Mexico.
For couples planning a destination wedding, this is a good reminder that tropical weather can be unpredictable. Hurricane season in the Atlantic basin officially runs from June through November, so checking forecasts and having a backup plan is important when planning a wedding in Mexico.
Thankfully, Saturday turned out sunny and beautiful!
The ceremony went on, the celebration continued, and the weather gave everyone a chance to enjoy the day they had been looking forward to.
And that is exactly why I always encourage couples to have a solid indoor backup plan for outdoor destination wedding events. You can plan every detail, but you cannot control the weather. Having a backup means you can focus on what matters most: celebrating your marriage.

If there is one thing I can say about Jahira and Christian’s wedding reception, it is that a time was had!
The dance floor was full of energy, their family and friends were ready to celebrate, and the party just kept going.
At one point, people from other events were even peeking in, seemingly trying to crash the wedding and join the dance floor!
Honestly, I cannot even blame them. The energy was that good.
There is something about a wedding where everyone is fully present, having fun, and celebrating the couple without holding back. Those are the receptions where I get to capture some of my favorite photographs of the entire weekend.
The dancing, the unexpected moments, the laughter, and all the personalities coming out on the dance floor are what make every wedding unique.
And I guess that is what happens when you take Bori’s to Mexico to celebrate two people they love!
Jahira and Christian’s wedding weekend was full of heart, family, faith, and a party that everyone will remember.
